Being a great and accomplished Real Estate Agent in a down market is not an easy feat. We all watched the real estate bubble burst, and while it had a profound and deleterious effect on our economy, the job market and our own personal savings, it also took its toll on Real Estate Agents everywhere. While it’s become a much different industry in the years since the burst, some Agents are still managing to make the business work for them; they’ve made great connections with their former clients, they’ve been honest and hard-working and they make themselves available whenever possible. It isn’t easy to be a stellar Agent, but like anything else, it’s worth all the effort. If you’re considering getting into the real estate business, or maybe just want to take your real estate business to the next level, here are some important things to consider:

People – Real estate is a people business; anyone who tells you differently is lying to you or is failing in their own business. Sure, real estate is considered a sales position; you are listing and showing homes, selling the American dream, and collecting a commission at the end of it all. When it comes down to it though, Cherry Creek Real Estate, and sales for that matter, is all about people. If you take care of your clients by getting them their dream home, or by listing and selling their property fast, they will take care of you. Unfortunately it’s not uncommon for people to have had a bad real estate experience; they may have been set up with a family friend of may have wandered into an Open House and decided to use that Agent. Some Agents can be quite aloof; not returning phone calls, not providing detailed information for their clients or even skipping out on important appointments. Others can be too aggressive, “hungry” for the sale, which makes them push their clients into an uncomfortable situation. Whatever approach you take in your real estate career, it’s important to always think of your client’s needs first, they’ve come to you to provide them with a service and you owe them a smooth experience and effective outcome. To be a great agent, find out more about your clients; take them to lunch, learn about their family and their current living situation. Know exactly what they want and make sure to manage their expectations early on. (Trust us; everyone wants a four bedroom home in a good neighborhood for half the fair market value or to sell their home in a week for more than the asking price. Help them think more realistically!)
